June 2009

Dear Friends,

It totally amazes me when I look back over my life and see what God has done.  Take a moment and think back over your life.  Can you trace his hand of grace and mercy? Can you see his provisions?  Then rejoice! He is the same yesterday, today and forever more.   May the Lord bless you and may your hope be renewed today!

A Word of Hope – Peace that Overcomes

John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Jesus never said that we would have problem-free lives because we have become Christians.  Instead, he assured his disciples that they would indeed have trouble in this world and it is inevitable that all of us will have difficulties in our lives from time to time.

However, Jesus does not leave us without hope.  In the midst of our problems, He tells us to “take heart”,  [to have courage or hope]. He reminds us that he has overcome the world.  He deliberately tells us these things ahead of time so that when problems come, we will not be overwhelmed by them.    He wants us to know that it is possible to experience peace instead of chaos. It is possible to have hope instead of despair.  This may seem hard for us to believe especially when we are right in the middle of the circumstance.  But Jesus has promised to give us peace because he is the “Prince of Peace”.  He does not offer a temporary or shallow peace like the world gives.  He offers a peace that transcends our comprehension and settles deep down in our spirits.  Even we cannot fully understand it at times. It is the indescribable calm that rests in our soul while the wind continues to rage around us.  It is the stillness that keeps us steady when the waves toss us about on the sea of life.  It is the gentle quiet that comes when we trust him. It allows us to let go and let God because we know that He has overcome the things in this world. We can be sure that he has things under control and that He is greater than any difficulty we may face.  “Greater is He who is in us, than he that is in the world.”  (1John 4:4)

What problem or difficulty are you facing today?  I encourage you to release it to Jesus in exchange for His peace.  He will not fail you.
