Lehigh Valley Residents to Cycle 600 Miles for Congolese Men, Women, and Children with the 2017 Restoring Hope Ministries Bike Tour

Proceeds from the Bike Tour will benefit the church-to-church partnership, Restoring Hope Ministries, between Cornerstone Church in Easton and the CECA-20 Church in Dungu, Democratic Republic of Congo

EASTON, PA. – JULY 20, 2017 – Lehigh Valley cyclists participating in the 2017 Restoring Hope Ministries Bike Tour will cycle 600 miles through Michigan, Canada, Pennsylvania, and New York to raise awareness of the severe suffering of Congolese men, women, and children. Over 5.4 million people have died as a result of civil war in eastern Congo. The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and other militias attacked villages, leaving homes burned, men dead, women raped, and children abducted. The rebels used rape as a weapon of war deeply injuring the dignity of their victims.

In response, cyclists in the Lehigh Valley will sacrifice 10 days to raise awareness and financial support to invest in restoring through trauma counseling, training through post-secondary education and trade skills, and sustaining through asset-based development in DR Congo. Stark Financial Group is the Title Sponsor for the tour. Lifestyle Realty is the Gold Sponsor, and Curt’s Cyclery is the Bike Shop Sponsor.

On Sunday, August 6 a picnic will be held at Scott Park in Easton to celebrate the conclusion of the Bike Tour. The Restoring Hope Ministries team invites the community to join in the celebration with lunch and a brief program in which the story of the Congolese and response from our community will be shared. The program will begin at 12 p.m.

Visit rideforcongo.org for pictures, more information, and a brief video of last year’s bike tour.
