Mark 10:46-52  And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.  And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.  And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.  And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.  And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.  And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Jesus was passing through Jericho and Bartimaeus had begun to call out for his attention.  His desperate cry boomed into the direction of the crowd, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  At once those around him began to tell him to be quiet.  Why?  Was he too loud?  Was it because he was a beggar and they thought he was not good enough for Jesus?  Did they think he was a bother to Jesus? Was he irritating them by his persistence?

Whatever the reason it did not silence his voice.  In fact he cried out all the more.  Bartimaeus was determined to be heard.  He would not let the crowd intimidate him.  He would not let anyone tell him to be quiet.  He had made up his mind and he was going to be heard.  I’m sure there were others calling out also.  He was not the only desperate one  there.  I’m sure that the noise of the crowd was loud.  One big jumble of voices calling out for the attention of Jesus.

The crowd is loud and massive, and then all of the sudden Jesus stops!  The crowd must have wondered why?  He calls for Bartimaeus.  Imagine?  Above all the noise of the crowd Jesus had heard the distinct cry of one voice calling out and it belonged to Bartimaeus.  He had been heard!

You may think that Jesus cannot hear your cry today.  You may think he is hearing everyone else but you.  But God knows your voice better than anyone. Do not stop calling on Him!  Do not let anyone silence you or intimidate you from crying out to the Lord.  Be determined to be heard!  Though there be a million voices crying out at once, he will hear your voice above the rest.  He will stop and call you to himself.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, I refuse to let others silence my voice as I call out to You.  Thank you that you hear my voice even in the midst of a million others.
