Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Have you ever wished that you could be more stable in your walk with the Lord?  Perhaps you struggle with doubt and sometimes waiver.  Perhaps you find that in storms and trials you are not as grounded as you want to be.

The wonderful thing about God is that for every weakness we may have He gives us the formula for success.  David wrote about a man who was like a tree planted by water.  A tree planted by water has strong roots.  Roots that go down deep into the soil so that when winds and storms blow it does not fall over but it stands firm.  He said that its leave would not wilt and it would bear fruit in season. Everything about it would prosper.

But before David described the tree like qualities of this man, he described the Godly qualities of this man.  He was a man who walked with God. He was a man who avoided evil.  He did not associate with those who were ungodly or who were a bad influence on him.  He stayed away from mockers that had nothing good to say.  He did not take the advice of those who were not walking with the Lord.

Instead, he delighted in God’s Word.  He meditated on what he read and he put it into practice.  He trusted in the Lord. He took the time to develop a strong relationship with his Savior. And that is what made him take on the characteristics of a firmly planted tree.  Everything about his life bore fruit and prospered because of who he did and did not associate with.  He became like a strong tree because of his Godly relationship.

Do you sometimes waiver and wish to become more stable?  Check the depth of your roots. Are they shallow or deep?  It is the depth of your relationship with God that will determine the depth of your roots and the kind of person you become.

Prayer Suggestion: Father, you know my weak areas.  Help me develop a deeper relationship with you so that my roots are strong and cause me to bear fruit in season and prosper in all that I do.
