Isaiah 48:17-18  This is what the Lord says-  your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:  "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.  If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

2 Chronicles 30:9c  …for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.

Many times in our lives we think that we are doing the right thing or going in the right direction only to find out that we have been wrong.  Life is not something we must guess at.  God has given us all the directions we need in His Word.  He knows what is best for us and He desires to teach us those things.  Unfortunately we sometimes refuse what God teaches us and insist on doing our own thing.  When we do this, we eventually find that we have lost our peace, our life is full of unnecessary problems and difficulties, and we have gotten way off track.

But God is gracious and will not leave us in our lost condition if we are willing to come back to Him.  His arms are always open for us and He is always awaiting our return.  And though He says, “If only you had listened”, God does not leave us to ourselves.   We often beat ourselves up with the “if only’s…” of our life.  If only we had not done this or if only we had done that instead.  But in spite of what we have done, God in his mercy invites us to come home from our waywardness.

We cannot change the past, but we can change the future.  We can begin today to make the right choices and listen to God’s instructions for our life.  We can begin now to obey and listen to the directions he gives us.  In return God will cause us to walk in peace and righteousness.

Have you gotten off track and done your own thing only to find that you have lost your peace and brought unnecessary problems into your life?  Put yesterday’s mistakes under the blood and turn back to the Lord right now.  He is waiting for you to come home.

Prayer Suggestion:  Father, thank you that even when I get off track I can always come home to You.  You will never reject me.  Right now I choose to obey your instruction and directions for my life.
